Triton has a rich history that dates back to 1964, when Colonel Jean-René Parmentier designed the original Triton Spirotechnique for Spirotechnique (the diving firm founded by Jacques-Yves Cousteau). Its distinctive 12 o’clock crown with articulated guard was not just stylistic flair, but a practical innovation to protect divers from snagging hazards. As a professional-grade tool worn by maritime and military divers, it was the most expensive dive watch on the market at one point. The brand faded in the 1970s during the quartz crisis, but was revived in 2015/16 by Jean-Sébestian Coste and Philippe Friedmann, who reintroduced the Subphotique, and later reissued the classic Spirotechnique in 2023. Today, Triton continues to produce high-quality dive watches that honour the original DNA while meeting contemporary technical standards.
