Brand History

The origins of the Lacoste brand date back to René Lacoste's days playing tennis. René was nicknamed "the Crocodile" due to his tenacity on the tennis court, he also wore a tennis shirt featuring a crocodile when he was playing. His playing days came to an end in 1932 and the next year he founded La Chemise Lacoste with André Gillier in order to produce the tennis shirt which he wore on the tennis court. By producing this shirt Lacoste became one of the earliest instances of a brand appearing on the outside of clothing. Lacoste are most well known today for their polo shirts, but they also have a very successful range of eye-wear, fragrances and, of course, watches. Lacoste watches have been available since 2006 in order to capture the brands elegance inspired by sport in the form of a wristwatch.
