The Designers

All Obaku watches are designed by Christian Mikkelsen and Lau Liengaard Ruge, who have been known for their minimalist designs in the past. Both designers are passionate about watches - Christian Mikkelsen himself owns 20 watches! Mikkelsen sees the watch as a very special item and puts a lot of effort into crafting incredible designs.

Both designers are incredibly proud of their designs. So much so that when you receive your Obaku watch you will find the name of the designer inscribed on the back case.

A Blend of Fashion and Nature

Something which makes Obaku watches incredibly unique is the philosophy and identity of the brand. The personality of the Obaku brand integrates Scandinavian minimalism with the calm of Zen philosophy. Each watch is designed in Denmark by Mikkelsen and Ruge before travelling to the far East to be brought to life in the peace and calm of the oriental Zen philosophy.

Designs To Last Forever

Obaku aim to create something more than just flavour of the month fashion designs. In fact, the aim of Obaku is to create watches which will remain desirable forever. As Lau Liengaard Ruge explains, "I'm no fan of quick-fire, flavour-of-the month solutions. I want to really get to grips with a design, and focus my energy on bringing it to fruition.”

Brand manager, Henriette Arvin explains the overall aim of Obaku, “If you look at the Opera house in Sydney or a Swan chair designed by Arne Jacobsen, these look as modern today as they did fifty years ago. The same will go for an Obaku watch.”
